Hurry...We finally got our own rupee symbol.
Thanx to IIT-ian D Uday Kumar ,the Rupee has now a symbol like other major currencies.
The union cabinet approved the symbol yesterday (16/7/2010).The indian rupee is now the fifth currency in the world to have a distinct identity.
The Rupee will join the elite club of US Dollar,British Pound, Euro and Janpanese Yen to have its own symbol.
The design based on the Tricolor with two lines at the top that shows the "equal to" sign.Its refelecting the indian national flag .
The indian government had announced a competition in march last year inviting creative designs from indian residents to respresnt the rupee.
